Abstract: This article presents a method for evaluating measurement uncertainty. It is a method proposed by Supplement 1 of the GUM (Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement), called Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). This method uses the Probability Density Functions (PDF) of the input quantities and the parameters of the measurement function to estimate the standard uncertainty and the coverage intervals of the output quantity. To illustrate the approach, the Monte Carlo Simulation was applied in a calibration process of a micrometer in a metrology laboratory. As a result, it was identified that the expanded uncertainties, obtained after 100 thousand simulations, for the calibration points of 22 mm and 24 mm of the micrometer, were 0.0014 mm and 0.001 mm, respectively. Additionally, through analysis of variance (ANOVA), it was found that repeatability uncertainty was the largest contribution to the measurement uncertainty at the two calibration points.
