Abstract: The right to health was guaranteed by the 1988 Federal Constitution, which establishes it as a right for all and a duty of the State. In this context, this study seeks to understand and reflect on the care provided to the transgender population at the Regional University Hospital of Ponta Grossa. The general objective is to analyze the care provided to transgender patients in the Emergency and Urgency Unit 1 of the institution, from the perspective of ensuring the rights of this population. Specifically, it aims to: (i) conceptualize the historical process of the right to health for the transgender population in Brazil; (ii) describe how care is provided to transgender patients in the Emergency and Urgency Unit 1; and (iii) identify whether the right to the use of a social name is respected in the aforementioned unit. Methodologically, this is a qualitative study structured in three stages: bibliographic research, documentary research, and empirical research, the latter conducted through a questionnaire applied to the multiprofessional team working in this unit. The qualitative analysis revealed that, despite the legal knowledge demonstrated by the staff, gaps persist between formal knowledge and everyday practice. Factors such as the precariousness of registration systems, insufficient continuing education, and manifestations of covert prejudice constitute structural barriers that compromise the care provided to the transgender population. This research contributes by highlighting these weaknesses, reinforcing the need for more effective institutional policies, ongoing training, and health practices committed to respecting gender identity, thus promoting advances in ensuring access to health with dignity.
