• Abstract:

  Today, the practice of University

  Social Responsibility (USR) has gained

  worldwide boom. At university level it is important

  to understand the impact of universities to

  society as a whole. Not only as an extension

  of the results to sectors or localities needy but

  as generators of impacts on society and the

  environment.

  In Latin America, more and more universities

  adopt this concept, which has been enriched in

  recent years to match the update of the broader

  concept of “social responsibility” as set out in

  ISO 26000, without being a mere application

  of the concept of corporate social responsibility

  given the uniqueness of the impacts of

  higher education academic society and the

  environment.

  In Ecuador, the universities in the framework of

  the changes produced by the Citizen Revolution

  should gradually incorporate elements of

  university social responsibility in all the variables

  that make up the daily operation of their essential

  processes.

  This paper aims to develop a model for University

  Social Responsibility for the Metropolitan

  University of Ecuador.
