UMA REVISÃO CRÍTICA SOBRE O USO DO P – VALOR EM PESQUISAS NA ÁREA DA SAÚDE
Pesquisas na área da saúde utilizam em sua maioria estatística inferencial para apresentar os resultados e posteriormente discutir os delineamentos estudados. Os testes estatísticos inferenciais, utilizados em muitos estudos realizam a interpretação dos dados associados ao valor de P. Esta revisão crítica tem como objetivo de discutir os aspectos ligados à importância do p-valor nas pesquisas empíricas e sua adequada interpretação. Foram incluídos artigos coletados nas bases de dados SciELO e Pubmed, que foram redigidos em português ou inglês. Ressaltamos que o p-valor é uma medida de evidência estatística que aparece em praticamente todas as pesquisas relacionadas a ciências da saúde e sua correta interpretação do p-valor, requer uma compreensão do que significa teste estatístico. Portanto, sugere-se que não se deve concluir os resultados de um estudo apenas pelo p-valor, embora seu limite de significância estatística possa ser útil para basear decisões, suas limitações devem ser reconhecidas e os resultados necessitam ser avaliados compreendendo integralmente o seu papel na pesquisa empírica.

Abstract:
Research in the health area mostly uses inferential statistics to present the results and later discuss the designs studied. Inferential statistical tests, used in many studies, perform the interpretation of data associated with the p-value. This critical review aims to discuss aspects related to the importance of the p-value in empirical research and its proper interpretation. Articles collected in the SciELO and Pubmed databases that were written in Portuguese or English were included. We emphasize that the p-value is a measure of statistical evidence that appears in virtually all research related to health sciences and its correct interpretation of the p-value requires an understanding of what statistical testing means. Therefore, it is suggested that the results of a study should not be concluded only by the p-value, although its limit of statistical significance can be useful to base decisions, its limitations must be recognized and the results need to be evaluated fully understanding their role in empirical research.
