TRATAMENTO PERIODONTAL EM PACIENTES DIABÉTICOS NA REDE PÚBLICA DO BRASIL: REFLEXÃO E ANÁLISE
Uma relação causal tem sido demonstrada entre a periodontite e o aumento dos níveis de hemoglobina glicosilada em pacientes diabéticos. A Diabetes Mellitus não causa a Periodontite, mas sim modifica a resposta inflamatória que é caracterizada pela resposta vascular, celular e presença de necrose tecidual e reparo. O presente estudo visa, por meio de uma revisão de literatura reflexiva e analítica, validar o tratamento periodontal como medida terapêutica adjunta a ser adotada no controle da diabetes mellitus em pacientes com doença periodontal. A relação bidirecional entre diabetes e doença periodontal torna necessário o tratamento periodontal do paciente diabético com periodontite.

Abstract:
A causal relationship has been demonstrated between periodontitis and increased levels of glycosylated hemoglobin in diabetic patients. Diabetes Mellitus does not cause Periodontitis, but rather modifies the inflammatory response that is characterized by vascular, cellular response and presence of tissue necrosis and repair. The present study aims, through a reflective and analytical literature review, to validate the periodontal treatment as an adjunct therapeutic measure to be adopted in the control of diabetes mellitus in patients with periodontal disease. The bidirectional relationship between diabetes and periodontal disease makes necessary the periodontal treatment of the diabetic patient with periodontitis.
