Abstract: Eating disorders are psychological, behavioral and physiological characteristics. They are characterized by serious disturbances in eating behavior and body image, and their diagnostic criteria are established by the World Health Organization (WHO), in the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), and by the American Psychiatric Association, in the Manual of Mental Illness Statistics. In this sense, social networks have become a lever for the acquisition of ED, as they make most people conform to a non-existent body “norm” imposed by society, where young people are the ones who suffer most from these impulses. . Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the impacts of social media associated with eating disorders in adolescents. This study was originated through the descriptive research method, with the bibliographical survey of the systematic literature review, taking as orientation the period comprised of 5 years, which aims to update the subject for the scientific community in a qualitative way and to have a base to substantiate new research. The descriptors used in the electronic search are in the following databases: PubMed, BVS, Scielo (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and Google Scholar. Based on what was exposed and analyzed in the literature, it was identified that eating disorders are severe pathologies, which, if not adequately treated, triggers damage to the health of the individual and can even lead to death and that the increase in these disorders is notorious in reason for the consumption of social media, since the display and sharing of images online are directly related to the search for aesthetic standards imposed by society. reaching the conclusion that it is of paramount importance that the WHO together with the federal government find measures to promote and prevent health in relation to young people and excessive consumption with the idealization of the standard of beauty.
