Abstract: ABSTRACT Objective: To identify technological trends in non-invasive pulse oximetry monitoring in critically ill patients in scientific publications. Method: Integrative literature review conducted from May to April 2022 in the databases MEDLINE via the Virtual Health Library portal, PUBMED, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library. The reference manager Mendeley was used to remove duplicates, and the selection of studies was based on the PRISMA guidelines. Results: A total of 590 publications were identified, and 10 studies composed the sample, allowing the formulation of 3 thematic categories: development of new pulse oximetry monitoring technologies; management of oximeter use in nursing care; and efficacy of pulse oximetry monitoring in clinical practice. A small number of articles authored by nurses was highlighted, comprising 20% of the sample. The most prevalent pulse oximetry monitoring technology in critically ill patients was spectrophotometry. Final considerations: Technological trends in non-invasive monitoring were identified, such as cephalic oximetry, ear canal oximetry, tracheal oximetry, and sternal oximetry, which are promising sites for SpO2 evaluation. It is recommended that more studies be conducted to ensure the provision of quality care.
