Abstract: Infections caused by microorganisms are among the main concerns of global health. These diseases can manifest in various ways, primarily affecting the skin. Acne vulgaris is one of the main skin infections caused by microorganisms, and its manifestation can occur due to various factors such as diet, premenstrual exacerbation, hyperhidrosis, stress, smoking, genetic predisposition, medications, cosmetics, moisturizers, seasonal factors, and hormonal disorders. Its primary pathogenic agent is Cutibacterium acnes, a Gram-positive, anaerobic bacterium that inhabits hair follicles and sebaceous glands, accounting for nearly 90% of the microbial community in acne patients and individuals with normal skin. The main treatments for acne currently include corticosteroids, which, if used improperly, can hinder treatment and further worsen the patient's health. Therefore, scientific research is seeking new active and sustainable molecules with the potential to treat this disorder. Natural active ingredients, such as sophorolipids and copaiba essential oil, which exhibit antimicrobial and antioxidant properties, are alternatives for the pharmaceutical industry and may represent an innovative and sustainable strategy to reduce this infection.
