Abstract: Separators are equipment used to separate the multiphase mixture from production wells during the primary processing stage. Therefore, it is crucial to have mathematical models capable of representing their phenomena to optimize these processes. In this context, the present study aimed to simulate the behavior of the multiphase fluid inside a separator with an L-shaped baffle, where both the vertical and horizontal baffles were perforated and modeled as a porous medium. To achieve this, a Eulerian-Eulerian approach was employed, represented by the Volume of Fluid (VOF) model in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to describe the behavior and interaction of the phases. Scenarios were simulated with varying baffle presence and fluid inlet velocity. Therefore, the results satisfactorily represented the behavior of the fluid dynamics of gas, oil and water in the process of phase separation in the separator vessel. The use of an L-shaped perforated deflector, without the presence of perforated plates, contributed to the reduction of the presence of liquids in the separation region of the three-phase horizontal separator vessel.
