Abstract: Pediatric dentistry requires specific approaches to manage childhood anxiety and fear, conditions that compromise the quality and effectiveness of clinical care. In this context, sedation and analgesia emerge as important therapeutic strategies, enabling a safer, more comfortable, and collaborative environment during dental procedures. This study aimed to analyze the sedation and analgesia methods used in pediatric dentistry, highlighting their effectiveness, safety, and clinical applicability. To this end, a literature review with a qualitative approach was conducted using databases such as SciELO, BVS, PubMed, and CAPES Journals. Articles published between 2020 and 2025 were selected, focusing on children, conscious sedation, pharmacological agents, and clinical protocols. The results showed that midazolam, nitrous oxide, and combinations with ketamine or dexmedetomidine are the most commonly used agents, with proven effectiveness in managing child behavior. The clinical criteria for indication include severe anxiety, poor adherence to behavioral techniques, and the need for more complex procedures. Despite the safety associated with conscious sedation, studies identified possible complications, such as paradoxical reactions and respiratory depression, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and professional preparation. It is concluded that sedation and analgesia, when applied with responsibility and technical knowledge, are valuable tools in pediatric dentistry, promoting more effective, humanized, and safe care.
