Abstract: The challenges of rural sanitation in Brazil are diverse and complex, reflecting disparity in access to basic sanitation services faced by many rural communities. Among the main Challenges are the absence of appropriate infrastructure, including the water supply system and effluent treatment, the scarcity of financial resources for investments in these areas, the difficulty in reaching remote and dispersed areas, the absence of specific policies and the need technical training and community engagement to adopt effective and sustainable solutions. O Access to clean water and basic sanitation is crucial to preventing waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera and hepatitis. Improving rural sanitation helps reduce the incidence of these diseases and improves the health of rural communities. Some aspects must be adopted so that there is actually sustainable development in localities, such as water distribution, basic sanitation, hygiene, waste management, community participation and sustainability. Furthermore, the conditions unfavorable socioeconomic conditions and lack of awareness about the importance of sanitation often exacerbate these challenges, making the development of integrated strategies crucial and collaborative approaches to overcome these barriers and ensure fair access to health services sanitation across the country. The objective of the work was to present the current panorama of rural sanitation conditions and sustainable development, highlighting the importance of environmental education in improving the population’s standard of living. To this end, consultations were carried out in the IBGE database and exploratory research in various bibliographic sources on the topic, collection of primary data, on-site visit, analysis and discussion of the data obtained.
