REALIDADE VIRTUAL NO TRATAMENTO E REABILITAÇÃO DE DEMÊNCIAS: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA
Estima-se haver cerca de 46,8 milhões de pessoas com demência no mundo, podendo chegar a 74,7 milhões em 2030 e a 131,5 milhões em 2050. Estudos recentes apontam a Realidade Virtual (RV) como uma ferramenta potente para trabalhar com idosos com demência por meio de atividades terapêuticas, técnicas de avaliação e de reabilitação cognitiva. Esse estudo objetivou revisar a literatura científica que aborda a aplicação da RV como uma ferramenta efetiva para o tratamento e reabilitação de pacientes com demência. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura que se baseou em artigos originais e relatos de caso em língua inglesa e espanhola encontrados nas bases de dados PubMed, LILACS, Google Scholar, EBSCO e Scielo. Os estudos foram publicados no período de 2014 a 2019 e utilizou-se os descritores na base DeCS: dementia e virtual reality. Foi realizada uma análise sistemática destes estudos apontando a metodologia utilizada e os principais resultados encontrados. Observou-se que nos estudos avaliados houve melhoria na função executiva, memória visuoespacial, fluência verbal, aprimoramento da direção e atenção, tomada de decisão, humor, tendência a depressão, velocidade de processamento e atenção auditiva, além dos relatos dos pacientes de se sentirem mais alertas, seguros e confortáveis quando realizaram exercício físico virtual. A realidade virtual possui grande funcionalidade, apresentando-se como uma ferramenta potencial para uma terapia menos invasiva e mais agradável no tratamento e reabilitação de pacientes com demência. No entanto, os estudos são exíguos, e sua aplicabilidade ainda é limitada, principalmente em países em desenvolvimento, como o Brasil.

Abstract:
It is estimated that there are about 46.8 million people with dementia in the world, reaching 74.7 million in 2030 and 131.5 million in 2050. Recent studies point to Virtual Reality (VR) as a powerful tool to work with. with elderly people with dementia through therapeutic activities, assessment techniques and cognitive rehabilitation. This study aimed to review the scientific literature that addresses the application of VR as an effective tool for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with dementia. This is a literature review based on original articles and case reports in English and Spanish found in PubMed, LILACS, Google Scholar, EBSCO and Scielo databases. The studies were published from 2014 to 2019 and the DeCS descriptors were used: dementia and virtual reality. A systematic analysis of these studies was carried out, pointing out the methodology used and the main results found. It was observed that in the evaluated studies there was an improvement in executive function, visuospatial memory, verbal fluency, improvement in direction and attention, decision making, mood, tendency to depression, processing speed and auditory attention, in addition to patients' reports of feeling more alert, safe and comfortable when they performed virtual physical exercise. Virtual reality has great functionality, presenting itself as a potential tool for a less invasive and more pleasant therapy in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with dementia. However, studies are limited, and their applicability is still limited, especially in developing countries, such as Brazil.
