QUE FOGO NOS TRAZ ESSE PROMETEU MODERNO: AS TRÊS FASES DA ESCRITA FEMININA DE ELAINE SHOWALTER EM FRANKENSTEIN DE MARY SHELLEY
O presente artigo visa analisar as personagens femininas em Frankeinstein ou o Prometeu Moderno (1818), de escritora britânica Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Na Inglaterra a partir da década de 1790, a estética gótica tornou-se uma forma literária inerentemente eminina, servindo a desconstrução dos sistemas ideológicos masculinos, uma vez que permita a essas escritoras revelerem-se contra a naturalização de discursosde gênero e contra a construção social da feminilidade e da maternidade na época. Nosso intuito é demonstrar que ao analisarmos as descrições, atitudes e reações das personagens femininas nessa obra do romantismo gótico inglês podemos perceber a presença de características que remetem as três fases da literatura de autoria feminina, proposta pela crítica e ensaista norte-americana Elaine Showalter (1986). Em Frankeinstein, encontramos representações femininas que,inicialmente, nos sugerem os típicos esteriótipos femininos do século XVIII, mas que demonstram, nas entrelinhas, a crítica social pessoal assim como o legado feminista herdado pela autora.

Abstract:
This aticle aims to analyze the female characters present in the novel Frankeinstein or the Modern prometheus (1818), by the British writer writer Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. Our Pourpose is to verify if through the analysis of the discriptions, attitudes and responses of the female characters presented in this work of the English gothic romanticism, we are able to perceive features which would refer to the so called 'three phases' of female literary evolution according to the American essayist Elaine Showalter. Thus, we seek to contribute to a new analysis possibility of those workes writen by women before the twentieth century, giving a fresh look on their subversion startegies and denounces of the status quo. Regarding writing, authorship and female representation, in addition to Showalter (1986), we also used contributions from Spivak (2010), Woolf (2014) among others, and on the eighteenth centrury literature, we sought references in Burke (2005), Vasconcelos (2002), Mellor (1993).
