Abstract: This study aimed to configure the perspective of therapists who work with male same-sex couples. A double methodology was used: First, a state-of-the-art literature review, and second, semi-directed interviews with 4 therapists. Discursive textual analysis was used to analyze the content of the interviews. From this analysis, 3 categories emerged: Myths, stereotypes and social representation. Among the results, the following stand out: Interview 1-Myths: The Gay world is extremely seductive, it affects desires, ego, sexuality, more than the heteronormative world. In relation to stereotypes, it is highlighted that male same-sex couples tend to have more similarities with the demands of straight couples than differences. The only therapist with a psychodynamic approach presented a greater conglomeration of social representations. Among them, “It’s difficult to be faithful to your own desire” stands out. The difficulty of finding therapists for male same-sex couples can be inferred from exposure as a couple therapist who treats same-sex couples within a heteronormative society. And, although since 1990 there has been a movement to provide services for same-sex couples. In a society governed by heteronormativity, individuals with sexual behavior considered deviant may develop feelings of repulsion towards their own sexual condition. The literature is still timid on the topic addressed, demanding greater depth in the training of psychotherapists who are willing to work with same-sex couples.
