PROJETO BARRAGINHAS NO NOROESTE DE MINAS GERAIS: DESENVOLVIMENTO REGIONAL E SUSTENTABILIDADE AMBIENTAL
O presente estudo teve por objetivo apresentar, a partir da iniciativa do Projeto Barraginhas, a viabilidade de concretização de uma articulação positiva e progressiva entre a sustentabilidade, a sociedade e o desenvolvimento. A problemática ambiental tem sido tema cada vez mais presente nos debates econômicos, principalmente nas discussões acerca do desenvolvimento, sendo considerada uma constante no que se refere às demandas sociais, principalmente para implementação de políticas públicas neste âmbito. Diante da crescente exploração do meio ambiente para sustentar a dinâmica da sociedade de consumo, algumas teorias e métodos têm sido criados para pensar o desenvolvimento de forma sustentável, entre os quais, a neoclássica da economia ambiental, que tem vislumbrado o desenvolvimento sustentável a partir da valoração dos bens naturais. Tendo em vista os efeitos atrozes originados pelas ações humanas nos ecossistemas, há certa descrença quanto à possibilidade de uma relação sustentável entre o meio ambiente e o desenvolvimento.

Abstract:
The objective of this study was to present, based on the initiative of the Barraginhas Project, the feasibility of a positive and progressive articulation between sustainability, society and development. In order to do so, the Ecological Economics theory was used for some understandings about environmental sustainability and development. Environmental issues have been a topic that is increasingly present in economic debates, especially in discussions about development. The phenomenon of globalization has spread in the last decades, a development model based on high consumption patterns, as well as a production with intense use of natural resources – a fact that has worried the environmentalists. Faced with the increasing exploitation of the environment to sustain the dynamics of the consumer society, some theories and methods have been created to think about development in a sustainable way, among them, the neoclassical of environmental economics, which has envisioned sustainable development from the Valuation of natural assets. However, numerous approaches have emerged as a counterpoint to this market perspective, arguing about its insufficiencies to think development in an environmentally sustainable way. In view of the atrocious effects of human actions on ecosystems, there is some disbelief in the possibility of a sustainable relationship between the environment and development.
