PROGRAMAS DE DISTRIBUIÇÃO DE ALIMENTOS EM PORTUGAL: MODELO ATUAL E PERSPECTIVAS FUTURAS
As questões de segurança alimentar, num planeta esgotável e com uma população crescente, têm sido debatidas com o propósito de encontrar soluções. No entanto, mesmo em países com alto rendimento, têm-se encontrado uma incidência crescente de indivíduos em insegurança alimentar. Neste ambiente vulnerável, a procura por ajuda em instituições de caridade tem sido desmedida e precipitada, condicionando a eficácia da sua intervenção. Deste modo, torna-se prioritário a elaboração e implementação de políticas nutricionais que compreendam várias entidades com preocupações de saúde, sociais e éticas, que visem a assistência e resolução da insegurança alimentar a indivíduos em risco. Vários modelos têm sido implementados em vários países, com um objetivo comum, mas com diferentes focos de intervenção. Em Portugal, o principal objetivo deste tipo de programas é “matar a fome”, sendo recôndita a preocupação ao nível saúde e a qualidade nutricional dos alimentos distribuídos. Enquanto que, noutros países, como Brasil, EUA e Canadá, existem programas que não têm só como objetivo alimentar a população, mas também um papel importante na consciencialização das escolhas alimentares e fornecimento de alimentos saudáveis.

Abstract:
The issues of food security, on a depleting planet with a growing population, have been debated with the aim of finding solutions. However, even in high-income countries, an increasing incidence of individuals in food insecure has been found. In this vulnerable environment, the search for help from charities has been excessive and hasty, conditioning the effectiveness of their intervention. In this way, the elaboration and implementation of nutritional policies that include various entities with health, social and ethical concerns, that aim at assisting and solving food insecurity for individuals at risk, becomes a priority. Several models have been implemented in several countries, with a common objective, but with different intervention focuses. In Portugal, the main objective of this type of program is to “kill hunger”, being recondite the concern in terms of health and nutritional quality of the distributed food. While in other countries, such as Brazil, USA and Canada, there are programs that not only aim to feed the population, but also play an important role in raising awareness of food choices and providing healthy food.
