Produção de Sentido em O Continente: Movimentos do Tempo e do Vento
Este artigo tem como objetivo
destacar sentidos do romance O
Continente, primeira parte da trilogia O Tempo
e o Vento do escritor Erico Verissimo. Os
objetivos específicos voltam-se a perceber o
envolvimento dos fatores históricos e familiares
no romance; identificar as características da
linguagem literária utilizada pelo autor na
composição do texto; significar o título da
obra e da trilogia correlacionando à história, à
linguagem e à passagem das gerações. A partir
da epígrafe da obra registram-se colocações
sobre os termos tempo e vento com base
no que foi exposto por críticos literários. A
pesquisa é de caráter qualitativo e justifica-se a
análise devido ao amplo arcabouço histórico e
cultural propiciado pelo romance em relação à
formação do povo rio-grandense. Para alcançar
os objetivos a pesquisa contempla as seguintes
abordagens: o aspecto social das obras no
período literário que corresponde à criação do
romance, o ambiente de criação, características
e inspirações de Erico Verissimo e dimensões
de sentidos como as dos elementos tempo e
vento. Narrando 150 anos da História do Rio
Grande do Sul, em O Continente o autor põe
em primeiro plano o destino dos personagens,
ou seja, evidencia questões inerentes à vida
e à morte, à força e à fraqueza e às paixões
e às aflições das pessoas. Verifica-se que o
tempo e o vento são significativos do início ao
fim do romance, as gerações agem e repetem
ações no tempo e o vento faz-se presente nos
acontecimentos.

Abstract:
This article aims to highlight
significations of the novel O Continente, first
part of the trilogy O Tempo e o Vento, written
by Erico Verissimo. The specific objectives
are to understand the involvement of historical
and family factors in the novel; to identify
characteristics of literary language used by the
author in the text composition; to mean the novel
and trilogy’s titles correlating to history, language
and passing of generations. From the epigraph
of the novel there are aspects registered about
the terms time and wind based on what literary
critics has exposed about it. The research has
a qualitative character and it is justified due
to the broad historical and cultural framework
provided by the novel in relation to the formation
of Rio Grande Do Sul people. To reach the objectives the research contemplates the
following approaches: the social aspect of works in the literary period that corresponds
to the novel creation, the creation environment, Erico Verissimo characteristics and
inspirations and significations dimensions such as the elements of time and wind.
Narrating 150 years of Rio Grande do Sul History, in O Continente the author puts in
the foreground the characters destiny, that is, he highlights aspects about people’s
life and death, strength and weakness, and passions and afflictions. It is verified that
the time and the wind are significant from the beginning to the end of the novel, the
generations act and repeat actions in the time and the wind is present in the events.
