Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of burnout syndrome in a sample of Mexican teachers. The sample was made up of 105 Mexican teachers, of which 60 belong to a higher education institution in the public sector and 40 to an upper secondary educational institution in the private sector. The instrument that was applied was the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The results showed that in the Emotional exhaustion dimension, most teachers do not have high levels, although isolated cases with high values are identified. In Depersonalization, the levels were low in most of the members of the sample, which reflects a reduced degree of detachment or cynical attitudes towards work and students. Regarding personal fulfillment, a high level was presented, showing that teachers perceive a high sense of achievement and satisfaction in their work, which acts as a protective factor against burnout syndrome. Finally, the results of the tests applied to analyze differences in the three dimensions of the burnout syndrome (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal fulfillment) and sociodemographic variables did not report significant differences except for marital status.
