Abstract: To identify the main difficulties encountered by postpartum women in breastfeeding during the first days postpartum, aiming to estimate the prevalence of breast complications in the early postpartum period. Methods: This is an observational epidemiological study with a cross-sectional design involving postpartum women between the third and forty-second day postpartum, who attended the neonatal screening service between September 2023 and February 2024, through a questionnaire administered to the participants in a municipality in southern Santa Catarina. Results: Most of the postpartum women were between 16 and 34 years old, white, and single. Among the breast complications, fissure, breast engorgement, mastitis, and duct blockage were cited. Conclusion: Half of the participants reported some breast complication. Among the alterations, the one with the highest prevalence, cited by half of the women, was fissure.
