Abstract: Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have a versatile composition that can represent an advantage in the introduction of different polyvalent ions into their layers. This characteristic is very important when seeking certain applications. Not only can the cationic metals present in their layers be replaced, but inorganic anions such as Cl-, SO42- or CO32- that are present between the layers of LDHs can be easily exchanged for similar anions, such as molecular sensitizers, often used as luminescent modifiers or “antenna” molecules. Recent research has demonstrated the potential for applications of layered double hydroxides as carriers of molecules of interest, acting, for example, as a possible agent controlling the release of drugs in the body. With the aim of developing a multidisciplinary work, integrating physics and chemistry, this study consists of the preparation, characterization and optimization of LDH with the capacity for storage and transport of the nicotinic acid (vitamin B3).
