Abstract: The article presents an event of social importance that occurred in the Oaxacan Isthmus, when an entire community was uprooted from its territory to be relocated, and the problems that this fact entails. The relocation was carried out against the will of the people, leaving behind their dead and a former 16th century convent, an architectural jewel and symbol of identity of this community, which disappeared under the waters. After more than half a century of these events, in times of drought, the former inhabitants visit the site to remember their dead and contemplate the former Dominican convent and its temple, which shows its beauty, even in a state of imminent collapse. We conclude by considering the importance of defending the rights of indigenous peoples and protecting their historical heritage.
