Abstract: The book chapter addresses a practical case of an innovation implemented in the drainage and water evacuation system of a hydroelectric plant located in the region. The innovation consisted of integrating an automation system using a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to the existing configuration. To evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention carried out and perform a comparative analysis with the previous operating conditions, the pre- and post-improvement supervision records were examined. This study not only highlighted the relevance of automation in increasing operational efficiency, but also demonstrated how modernization can contribute to more effective management of water resources. Data analysis revealed significant improvements in the operation of the drainage and emptying system, corroborating the importance of investments in automation technologies. This case study serves as a reference for future implementations in similar systems, providing valuable information on the planning and execution of infrastructure improvements in hydropower plants.
