Abstract: This article focuses on the study of contemporary narrative in Diamela Eltit’s Never the Fire Ever (2017). Our objective is to examine the following themes: the historical reinterpretation of Chile (Pinochet’s dictatorship), the dictatorial regime, and the role of the female narrator. This study is significant as it highlights female writing during dictatorial regimes in Latin America and demonstrates how women played a fundamental role in ending these cruel political regimes. The novel is both realist and a work of resistance, as well as psychological in nature. The study draws upon references such as Biondi and Dafferner’s article “The Body as Witness: Politics of Female Writing in Diamela Eltit” (2021), Lukács’ The Historical Novel (2011), and Silva’s History, Memory, Literature (2020), among other authors who contributed to the textual production of this article. It is hoped that this study will contribute to a deeper reflection on the importance of women in society as a whole.
