Abstract: Currently, approximately 19 million Brazilians have some type of disability, and motor disabilities account for a significant portion of these individuals. Such restrictions impair the performance of everyday tasks, such as opening a door. Given such, the need to develop new resources capable of ensuring accessibility becomes ever so apparent. Based on the aforementioned, a small-scale prototype for an automatic door opening system for people with disabilities (PWDs) was developed, based on the Arduino embedded systems platform, aiming to enable access to residential and public environments in a safe and accessible manner. This work was developed by 3rd year high school students integrated with the Technical Education course in Systems Development at Etec de Taboão da Serra, initially building a digital model of the system and, later, the physical prototype. As of results, a reduced-scale door (10x18x1.6 cm) was designed and 3D printed to simulate the prototype. The system operates by means of a servo motor, which opens the door when the RFID module attached to a wheelchair is identified, closing it only when an ultrasonic sensor confirms that there is nothing within the door's limits. Thus, it can be concluded that the creation of prototypes enables the visualization of new technologies, allowing the optimization of work, time, costs and waste. Furthermore, they are tools that can contribute to improving accessibility for people with motor disabilities in domestic and public spaces, ensuring well-being and safety.
