• Abstract: The creation of the Family Health Strategy program represents a major milestone in the history of Brazilian public health, as it emerges with a potential with regard to access and health promotion. Its strategies incorporate much more than care in the health unit, it extends to the home, schools and enables health education initiatives for the entire community. In this sense, for a good progress of a health unit, there is a fundamental professional in this team, the nurse. This professional has a broad importance, because this professional far beyond performing nursing procedures, performs promotion actions, team management and materials. The present study aims to report the role of nurses in an Family Health Strategy. It was described in an experience report format and, from the analysis of the various facets of the Nurse responsible for the health unit during the Collective Health Internship II of the Nursing Course. It was possible to highlight the importance of qualified training, since this professional is responsible not only for promoting health through promotion and protection actions, but also for managing in a harmonious way, solving the needs of the community and an entire work team.
