Abstract: With the strong involvement of the international community, the Definitive Peace Agreement put an end to the civil war in Mozambique. The peace agreement and the international community's post-conflict initiatives have succeeded in transforming the Mozambique National Resistance (Renamo) from a rebel group into members of the defence forces. The key components of the success of the wider international community in negotiating peace and creating conditions for political stability have been (a) the provision of disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) prior to democratisation, (b) the decentralisation of humanitarian aid and relief efforts, (c) budget support to sectors relevant to peacebuilding. Although imperfect, Mozambique 2 remains an important case study on how the international community can assist in demilitarization, demobilization, and reintegration operations. To investigate and empirically analyze the drivers of this process, a qualitative research design oriented to the case study was used
