Abstract: Introduction: Non-Invasive Ventilation is the first alternative treatment for patients with Respiratory Failure, this strategy is offered through the use of a mask, instead of an endotracheal tube (the mode used in IMV). In the non-invasive method, oxygen is delivered using nasal masks, face masks, full face masks, mouthpieces and nasal pillows. Despite the benefits proven in the literature, prolonged use of NIV is associated with various complications for patients, the most frequent of which are: facial erythema/LPP on the face, abdominal distension, aspiration of gastric contents, transient hypoxemia, discomfort, nasal, oral and conjunctival dryness, as well as barotrauma. Objective: To identify in the literature nurses' interventions in the prevention and management of injuries induced by the prolonged use of non-invasive mechanical ventilation, identifying effective strategies that can be implemented in clinical practice. Methodology: This is an Integrative Literature Review based on the study's guiding question: What care is taken by nurses to prevent skin and mucous membrane lesions in patients on Non-Invasive Mechanical Ventilation for prolonged periods? The search for articles was carried out on the Virtual Health Library (VHL) platform and the PubMed database. Eight (8) articles were analyzed and retained for the review. Results: The data point to the importance of systematic interventions to prevent facial injuries associated with the use of Non-Invasive Ventilation devices; the need for training and education of the healthcare team, regular monitoring of skin integrity in the areas of contact with the interfaces. Frequent inspections allow early identification of signs of irritation, enabling immediate interventions, such as changing devices or applying protective products. The importance of the care provided by nurses in preventing skin and mucous membrane lesions in patients on Non-Invasive Mechanical Ventilation for prolonged periods cannot be underestimated. These professionals play a crucial role in monitoring skin integrity, in the appropriate choice of ventilation interfaces and in the implementation of preventive interventions aimed at minimizing the risk of complications.
