O EFEITO DO USO DE UM APPLET NA APRENDIZAGEM DE EQUAÇÕES DO 1.º GRAU COM DENOMINADORES NUMA TURMA DO 7.º ANO DE ESCOLARIDADE DO ENSINO BÁSICO
Vários estudos sugerem que as dificuldades na aprendizagem da álgebra devem-se, em parte, ao modo como os alunos fazem a transição da aritmética para a álgebra. Atualmente existe uma grande diversidade de recursos tecnológicos ao nosso dispor, em particular, na Internet, tornando-se imprescindível a reflexão sobre o seu contributo para o ensino e aprendizagem da álgebra. Este estudo pretende analisar de que forma é que a exploração do applet, Algebra Calculator, pode contribuir para o ensino e aprendizagem das equações do 1.º grau com denominadores. Especificamente, pretende-se analisar a forma como os vinte alunos de uma turma de 7.º ano de escolaridade do Ensino Básico, sem nunca terem resolvido equações com frações, utilizam procedimentos aritméticos na resolução deste tipo de equações. Interessa-nos também perceber se existe influência do uso do applet nas resoluções dos alunos. Este trabalho é realizado no quadro de uma experiência de ensino, durante a lecionação dos princípios de equivalência na resolução das equações. A análise de dados incide na observação das aulas e nas produções escritas dos alunos, antes e após o estudo do tópico. Os resultados mostram que, ao longo do estudo do tópico, os alunos aprenderam a fazer a redução de todos os termos da equação ao mesmo denominador e, de seguida, a eliminação dos denominadores, na resolução de equações do 1.º grau com denominadores com um desempenho significativamente melhor do que o habitual, mesmo aqueles que tinham fraco rendimento a Matemática.

Abstract:
Several studies suggest that the difficulties in learning algebra are due, sometimes, to the way students make the transition from arithmetic to algebra. Now there is a great diversity of technological resources everywhere, particularly on the Internet, making it essential to reflect on their contribution to teaching and learning of algebra. The aim of this study is to investigate how the applet Algebra Calculator, can contribute to the teaching and learning of a 1st degree equations containing fractions. Specifically, we intend to analyse how twenty students of a 7th grade class of middle school, without ever having solved equations with denominators, using arithmetic procedures in solving equations with fractions. Also we are interested in to know if there is influence of the use of the applet in the resolutions of the students. This work is conducted within the framework of an educational experience for the teaching of equivalence of equations principles. Data analysis focuses on observation of the classes and the written productions of students before and after the study of the topic. The results show that, over the topic of study, the students learned to make the reduction of all terms to the same denominator, and then the elimination of the denominators in the 1st degree solving equations with denominators had a significantly better performance than the usual, even those who had poor performance in mathematics.
