Abstract: This chapter explores the importance of complex numbers in Electrical Engineering, focusing on their applications in alternating current circuits and signal analysis. Initially, fundamental concepts and Cartesian and polar representations are presented, highlighting how these forms facilitate calculations of magnitude and phase in oscillatory phenomena. Practical applications of complex numbers in RLC circuits are then examined, where complex impedance representation allows for precise analysis of phase shifts and frequencies. Computational tools, such as Geogebra and CircuitLab, are discussed as effective educational resources, providing interactive simulations and visualizations that help overcome learning barriers. Finally, the chapter suggests strategies to enhance the teaching of complex numbers, encouraging the use of visual and collaborative approaches that foster practical and robust understanding among future engineers.
