Abstract: The present study aims to demonstrate the feasibility and advantages inherent to the implementation of Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (SHPs), taking advantage of the vast amount of existing rivers in Brazil, conducive to this type of enterprise. In addition, it addresses the imperativeness of new approaches in energy generation in the face of the current Brazilian energy context. In order to design and simulate a rotor for Francis turbines operating in SHPs, code scripts were developed in Python language to calculate the rotor dimensions of Francis turbines. From this data, the geometry was modeled in a CAD software and the simulation was conducted in Solidworks Software to analyze the pressure and velocity variables of the fluid in contact with the Francis turbine rotor. The simulation showed that the velocity of the fluid in contact with the studied rotor reaches 6.2 m/s, with a pressure of 109.5 kPa. As an evaluation criterion, a comparison was made between the results obtained in the simulation of the Francis turbine developed in this work and those of a simulation corresponding to a turbine with equivalent input parameters, but originated from different decisions and software. This comparison indicated that the project elaborated in the present study is feasible to use, favoring the speed of rotor design.
