Abstract: This article aims to highlight the consequences of the War of the Triple Alliance (also known as the Paraguayan War) in 19th century Brazil, focusing on the accounts of widows, orphans, mutilated individuals, and other forgotten soldiers by the monarchic government after the war's end. Using official historical sources as well as newspapers from the time, the text portrays the difficulties faced by these individuals, from seeking recognition and assistance to enduring the suffering caused by the negligence of the Brazilian Empire. Additionally, it is crucial to consider the voices and experiences of the less privileged in the construction of the historical narrative, so that they may find a place in history.
