Abstract: Exploratory laparotomy in horses is an emergency procedure frequently performed to diagnose and treat abdominal disorders such as obstructive colic or intestinal displacements. Proper anesthetic management is crucial to ensure patient stability, minimize intra- and postoperative complications, and promote a safe recovery. This case report describes the anesthetic approach used in a mare undergoing exploratory laparotomy, including premedication, induction, maintenance, anesthetic monitoring, and postoperative care. The anesthetic protocol was based on the use of sedative agents, inhalation anesthesia, and multimodal analgesia. The choice of drugs and continuous monitoring played a fundamental role in reducing anesthetic risks and improving the patient's prognosis.
