Este capítulo desenvolve a temática
de desvendar as condições do processo de
envelhecimento humano em uma instituição de
longa permanência, através do uso metodológico
da (auto)biografia na investigação sobre a
história de vida de Maria Alice Celani, utilizando
como meio teórico-metodológico o emprego
da História Oral e da Memória, a fim de coletar
fontes que narrassem sobretudo o papel da
referida idosa na Instituição Asilar Vila Vicentina
Júlia Freire, em João Pessoa - PB. Como
objetivo geral, buscou-se descrever o processo
de envelhecimento e institucionalização
de Maria Alice, bem como analisar sua
contribuição social dentro do contexto da Vila
Vicentina, onde, mesmo sendo moradora, atua
como figura indispensável na coordenação da
instituição e participa ativamente de decisões
como representante dos idosos. Vale salientar,
portanto, a relevância dessa abordagem, uma
vez que tal comportamento se desvirtua de uma
realidade gerontológica dependente, inativa e
não-autonomizada em sua maioria nos tempos
atuais.

Abstract:
This chapter develops the theme
of unveiling the conditions of the process of
human aging in a long-term institution through
the methodological use of (auto) biography in
the research on the life history of Maria Alice
Celani, using as theoretical and methodological
means employment Oral History and Memory,
in order to collect sources that narrated above
all the role of the said elderly woman in the
Institution Asilar Vila Vicentina Júlia Freire, in
João Pessoa - PB. As a general objective, the
aim was to describe Maria Alice’s aging and
institutionalization process, as well as to analyze
her social contribution within the context of Vila
Vicentina, where, although a resident, she acts
as an indispensable figure in the coordination of the institution and actively participates in decisions as representative of the elderly.
It is worth stressing, therefore, the relevance of this approach, since such behavior
deviates from a gerontological reality that is dependent, inactive and non-autonomized
in its majority in the present times
