Abstract: We can consider that Ponta Grossa is a municipality in transition, with two centuries of existence, gradually developing without urban planning and structuring. The city is located in a region of rugged terrain, characterized by various valley bottoms and featuring hundreds of streams, with a diverse hydrographic network, which poses a challenge for real estate growth while considering the preservation of Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs). In light of this, the study aimed to historically analyze the transformation of urban space in the northern zone of the municipality through historical images from Google Earth, analysis of Neighborhood Impact Studies (EIVs), and the Geo Web tool, encompassing environmental, geological, hydrographic, and geographical aspects, as well as land use and occupation, modifications of "urban voids," and the transfiguration of the landscape altered by the advancement of civilization. Given these geographical, hydrographic, and conservationist aspects that are unique to the northern zone of Ponta Grossa, the study sought to historically and spatially analyze the location and rapid development of lots within this respective region of the city, addressing issues such as invasions in APPs, EIV analyses, advancements of civilization, landscape modifications, and contributions to society. It is important to note that most of these residential developments were constructed recently (from 2016), and a significant portion possesses EIVs and appropriate environmental planning, factors that contributed to the occurrence of very few invasions of APPs. The construction of residential lots related to urban expansion in the northern zone of Ponta Grossa has partially affected important ecological and environmental issues, such as the suppression of fragments of native forest vegetation. On the other hand, the implementation of the studied lots did not result in significant changes to APPs and surface water resources. This chapter is part of the Final Paper of the Technical Residency in Environmental Engineering and Management at the State University of Ponta Grossa.
