Abstract: Introduction: One of the measures to guarantee SAN in Brazil is the National School Feeding Program (PNAE). Food and Nutritional Insecurity (IAN) is complex and impacts several areas of human life, since food is fundamental for survival. Therefore, the objective of this work is to develop a narrative review of the literature about IAN and its repercussions on academicperformance in students served by the PNAE. Methodology: A narrative review of the scientificliterature was carried out based on articles found in the Pubmed, SciELO, Virtual Health Library and Government Portal databases. Through the topics: Food and Nutritional (In)Security: Definitions andPerspectives, 2) Food and Nutritional Security Guarantee Policies, 3) Repercussions on School Performance, and 4) Food insecurity in children in public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil; the narrative has been set up. Results: Studies indicate the impact of IAN, related to childmalnutrition, can hinder growth and delay mental development in addition to the impact on psychologicalfactors. Low income and education are related to the problem and the more IAN the greater the reduction in cognition. Conclusion: Food insecurity impactsphysical, emotional, social and cognitive health, thusdirectly impacting school performance, requiring a multidisciplinary approach. Nutritional indicators and public policies are essential to measure and reduce this problem.
