Abstract: Introduction: Academic League is a non-profit association that seeks to add student training based on the tripod: extension, research and teaching. Therefore, extension activities are fundamental for graduation, through actions that directly involve and benefit the community. Therefore, we sought to assist health professionals in screening care at the Municipal Polyclinic of Cabedelo/ PB, with blood pressure measurement, in order to highlight the importance of blood pressure control, especially in the elderly. Objective: To report the experience of an academic medical league in extension activities, with the purpose of guiding the elderly and collecting data for comparative epidemiological studies on hypertension in the population over 60 years of age. Methodology: This is an experience report of an action by the Academic League of Pain and Intensive Medicine (LADMI), carried out at the Municipal Polyclinic of Cabedelo/PB. 12 students who were members of the league participated in the welcoming activity, measuring blood pressure and collecting information. Results and discussions: In May 2023, LADMI carried out an extension activity with the aim of screening patients before attending the Polyclinic, based on measuring blood pressure as recommended by the Ministry of Health. Given the result, a comparative study was instigated of the elderly and non-elderly population and the complications that may occur in hypertensive patients who require hospitalization and intensive care. Final considerations: The importance of community outreach actions was realized, as while the population feels welcomed by attentive and humanized listening, academics have the opportunity to enrich their technical skills. It also makes it possible to provide guidance to the elderly on hypertension prevention, dietary care and lifestyle that results in a reduction in future complications in elderly people who require hospitalization in intensive care. Furthermore, it allowed the collection of information for studies of this population, making it an enriching experience.
