Abstract: Introduction: Cervical cancer is considered a major public health problem, especially in Brazil. Health care aimed at young women, especially adolescents, is a challeng, given that, in this group, despite the higher incidence and prevalence of genital HPV infections, there is also a greater probability of regression of lesions, with spontaneous resolution in the majority sometimes. Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence on health education as a means of preventing cervical cancer. Methodology: This is a bibliographic review with research in the SciELO and LILACS databases, respecting the inclusion and exclusion criteria. As inclusion criteria publications in English, Spanish and Portuguese, full articles from 2020 to 2023 and as exclusion criteria: repeated articles, without relation to the proposed period and theme. 36 articles were selected to compose this review. Results and Discussion: According to the studies analyzed, it was identified that the triggering factors for cervical cancer are early sexual initiation, unprotected sexual intercourse, multiple sexual partners, HPV infections, and use of hormonal contraceptives. Health education activities such as lectures, conversation groups and home visits are relevant, as they provide women with knowledge about neoplasia, encouraging the practice of self-care, as well as helping to deconstruct stigmas and fears related to cytopathological examination. Conclusion: It was evident that the lack of information and ways to prevent the disease cause fears and concerns for many adolescents, which contributes to a delay in carrying out the cytopathological examination. Therefore, health education strategies, clarifying doubts about the disease and forms of prevention, addressing the availability of health services to carry out early screening, are essential measures to break the taboo associated with carrying out the exam.
