Abstract: Introduction: Mental health is a subject widely monitored by nursing professionals working in urgency and emergency sectors. It was observed that the care offered by nursing professionals in these units is affected by constant pressure, low financial return and uncertainty regarding the scenarios they will have to deal with in their work environments. Objective: To investigate, through a literature review, what impacts work in urgency and emergency units has on the mental health of nursing professionals. Methodology: This was a bibliographic review research constructed from materials published between 2019 and 2024. To select the texts, an online search was carried out in the Virtual Health Library Database. A total of 17 were considered here. publications that addressed the study theme. Results: The study outlined and presented some of the main illnesses that affect the psyche of these professionals, such as depression, anxiety and Burnout syndrome; which, if neglected, can compromise the professional practice of nurses working in urgent and emergency care, directly implicating the process of caring for the individual. Such pathologies were correlated with the practice of nursing, specifically in the context of urgency and emergency, objectively presenting the forms of work practice and the consequences of negligence in care and the impact that this overload has on the mental health of professionals. Final considerations: The research showed that nursing work in emergency units can have a direct impact on the mental health of nursing professionals. Stress, quick decisions, high technical and procedural performance directly affect these professionals.
