Abstract: The importance of raising awareness among the population about the risks associated with the inappropriate use of anabolic steroids, especially by those who use them without proper supervision, is emphasized. Additionally, there is a need for prevention strategies and management guidelines for healthcare professionals so that they can provide proper guidance regarding the risks involved in the abuse of these substances. The methodology involved data collection through the identification of articles, books, and specialized websites, including authors, publication year, and journal from August to November. Out of 9,649 articles found, only 40 were selected after exclusion criteria, and of these, 29 were discarded after reading the abstracts, resulting in the choice of 11 articles. Results and discussions indicate that the inappropriate use of anabolic steroids can lead to various short and long-term negative side effects, including heart failure, myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolism, mood disorders, and physical and psychological dependence associated with substance abuse. The complexity of treating anabolic steroid dependence is also emphasized, which may require specialized medical and psychological interventions. Finally, the importance of raising awareness about the risks of inappropriate use of anabolic steroids is highlighted, along with the need for preventive strategies and guidelines for healthcare professionals. Furthermore, the significance of additional research to enhance understanding of the effects of anabolic steroids and develop more effective treatment approaches for dependence is underscored, considering the issue as a public health concern that requires immediate attention.
