IMPACTOS DO USO DE ANTIDEPRESSIVOS NA CAVIDADE ORAL E AUDIÇÃO: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA

• Abstract: The use of antidepressants can have adverse effects on both the oral cavity and hearing. The most common oral symptoms include xerostomia and bruxism. Side effects on hearing are common among tricyclic antidepressants and Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), as well as hearing loss, tinnitus, and dizziness. Thus, the following research aims to identify the impacts of the use of antidepressants on hearing and the oral cavity. This is an integrative literature review. The BVS, PubMed, LILACS, Medline, Google Scholar, and SciELO databases were consulted without restriction of years or languages. The sample consisted of 14 scientific articles, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. There is a predominance of tricyclic antidepressants in the symptoms analyzed, causing effects such as xerostomia and bruxism, and others still associated with hearing problems such as tinnitus and dizziness. The results highlight the need for careful monitoring of patients and the implications of prescribing these medications. It was shown that, despite the need for antidepressants as treatment, some classes of these drugs, such as tricyclics, can cause long-term side effects. In terms of speech therapy, the most affected areas are effects on hearing, speech, voice and swallowing, and therefore, multidisciplinary monitoring is necessary to ensure good treatment for patients.
