Abstract: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most prevalent prostatic disorder in elderly, intact male dogs, being directly associated with hormonal changes related to aging. This case report aims to describe and discuss the occurrence of BPH associated with a prostatic cyst in a 10-year-old, mixed-breed, intact male dog, attended at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid (UFERSA), presenting with dysuria, hematuria, and involuntary urine loss. On physical examination, prostatic enlargement was detected through digital rectal palpation, without pain sensitivity. Abdominal ultrasonography revealed an increase in prostatic dimensions, the presence of cystic structures, and alterations compatible with colitis and secondary cystitis. The therapeutic approach adopted was orchiectomy, considered the treatment of choice for this condition. This report, supported by relevant literature, highlights the importance of combining clinical history, physical examination, laboratory tests, and imaging diagnosis for the early identification and proper management of prostatic diseases in dogs.
