Abstract: Gummy smile (GS) is defined as excessive exposure of the gums when smiling or speaking. The most common causes are: excessive verticality of the maxilla, shortening of the upper lip, hyperactivity of the levator labii superioris muscle and altered passive eruption. Therefore, the etiology of gummy smile must be diagnosed to determine the correct treatment. The objective of the work is to describe the Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty techniques for correcting a gummy smile. This is an integrative literature review based on scientific articles from national and international journals. The databases used were: PubMed, Cientifica Electronic Library Online (Scielo) and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (VHL) and Lilacs. Publications were collected between the years 2018 and 2023, in English and Portuguese. Research has shown that a gummy smile is one of the factors that can compromise the aesthetics and harmony of a smile and the most presentable techniques today for correcting a gummy smile are gingivectomy and gingivoplasty. It is a simple surgical procedure, with the application of local anesthesia and lasting an average of thirty minutes, where the professional uses a laser or scalpel to remove and remove excess gum and restores the harmony of the patient's smile without involving the other structures.
