Abstract: Since the late 1980s, there has been a social movement for the humanization of childbirth and birth in Brazil. Physiotherapy has as main objective to minimize pain without the use of drugs, implementing the preparation for childbirth by stimulating the awareness of the pelvic floor muscles, associated with breathing. Among the physiotherapeutic skills, we highlight the planning and execution of exercise programs for pregnant women, the prescription and application of physiotherapeutic techniques and resources of analgesia during labor and the realization of postural guidelines and functional adaptations in the pre and postpartum period. . During the moments before delivery, it is essential for the physical therapist to assist the parturient, trying to keep the body mobile. Thus, the physiotherapist specializing in women's health becomes indispensable at the time of childbirth. The aim of the present study was to determine the importance of the physical therapist in preparation and in labor. This is a systematic review of the literature carried out from July to December 2022. For the search, the Google Scholar online database, in Portuguese, published from 2017 to 2022, using the keywords “work of I give birth”. “physiotherapy in childbirth” and “pregnant woman” individually and cross- referenced. We found: 72 articles and of these 56 articles were selected for full reading. The results of this systematic review indicate that the physical therapist has a fundamental role, making him indispensable in the preparation and labor.
