• Abstract:

  INTRODUCTION: Sickle cell anemia is a hereditary disease caused by a genetic mutation. Numerous systemic repercussions are observed in the course of sickle cell disease. The cerebral vascular accident (CVA) corresponds to one of the most serious complications. The objective of this study was to describe the principal relationships of patients with sickle cell anemia affected by stroke. METHODOLOGY: The realization of the searches consisted from September to November 2019, we used the databases Scielo, PubMed and Science Direct with the temporal clipping from 2013 to 2019, where there was a careful selection in respect to works used for the development of this review. With the descriptors used so associated and isolates were "Sickle", "Stroke"; "treatment" and "prevention", in english and portuguese, indexed in DECs. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: These searches were found 410 articles, however, after the exclusion of duplicate findings and incomplete, restricted to 40 works, these were read individually by three researchers, in the presence of disagreements between them, a researcher was consulted for an opinion regarding the inclusion or not of the article. At the end of the analyzes, 10 articles were included in the review, where they had the descriptors included in the theme and/or summary and were included because they best fit the proposed objective. CONCLUSION: The stroke is an important complication and common in patients with sickle cell anemia. The treatment described in the literature was performed, having been favorable clinical evolution.
