Abstract: In the current global scenario, the growing concern about environmental pollution and the rise in greenhouse gases (GHG) has prompted the execution of a comprehensive study addressing the research, construction, and economic viability analysis of low cost biodigesters. These devices have the potential to convert organic matter into biogas and biofertilizer, playing a crucial role in reducing the environmental impact caused by methane emissions. The methodology employed was based on extensive literature research and technical data, including the collection, treatment, and meticulous analysis of the acquired data. The results highlight that biodigesters not only provide a more suitable solution for methane but also yield approximately a 20% savings in household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) consumption, showcasing their effectiveness and feasibility. The construction of residential biodigester models demonstrated that a single 120 L biodigester equipment could produce around 18 m³/year (~1.50 m³/month) of biogas. Based on findings from other studies, the proposal for developing these prototypes proves viable in different regions of the country. In this context, the implementation of biodigesters in the municipality of Resende/RJ will be assessed, incorporating enhancement techniques to boost system productivity. This aims to promote the generation of clean and sustainable energy, with the objective of reducing production costs.
