Abstract: Melasma is a pigmentary change in the skin that mainly affects women and people with sun-sensitive skin (phototypes II to IV). Melasma is characterized by dark spots on the face, with a significant impact on self-esteem. Although its cause is not fully understood, factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes and genetic predisposition are associated with its appearance. Melasma treatment aims to lighten these spots, in addition to preventing recurrences. To achieve this, it is essential to use photoprotection and combined topical therapies, such as the use of hydroquinone, tranexamic, azelaic and glycolic acids, chemical peels, laser, pulsed light and microneedling. The pharmacist specializing in aesthetics plays an important role, not only in developing treatments, but also in monitoring and guiding patients, offering solutions that improve patients' quality of life. Furthermore, the importance of a holistic approach on the part of the professional is emphasized, involving both skin care and the patient's general well-being.
