Abstract: Hospital-acquired infections represent a significant challenge for global public health, being one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in hospital environments. According to data from the World Health Organization, around 7% of patients in hospitals develop a healthcare-related infection. These infections not only compromise patient recovery, but also increase the length of stay and costs associated with treatment, generating growing concern among healthcare professionals. The aim of this study was to describe the main nursing strategies for reducing hospital-acquired infections. This was an Integrative Literature Review with the guiding question: what are the main nursing strategies for reducing hospital-acquired infections? The search took place in the Virtual Health Libraries (VHL), PubMed, MEDLINE and LILACS. The descriptors used for the search included “Hospital Infections”, “strategies” and “nursing”. Eleven articles were selected that directly aligned with the study's objective. The articles chosen were organized in an information table, which facilitated comparative analysis and the identification of recurring themes among the publications. Most of the articles are by Brazilian authors, reflecting a focus on nursing practices in the national context. However, international authors are also included, indicating a diversity of perspectives. The titles vary from practical approaches, such as the importance of hand hygiene, to the use of technology and specific nursing interventions. This demonstrates the breadth of the topic, which involves both traditional practices and innovations in healthcare. The rigorous implementation of hand hygiene practices is one of the most effective measures for minimizing the transmission of pathogens. Continuous education of healthcare professionals is essential to ensure that all team members are up to date on best practices and infection control protocols. The strategies adopted by nurses to prevent hospital-acquired infections are of the utmost importance to ensure patient safety and quality of care in healthcare environments. As nurses are on the front line of care, they play a crucial role in implementing practices that significantly reduce the risk of infections. Measures such as proper hand hygiene, the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and rigorous disinfection of surfaces and equipment are fundamental actions that help minimize the transmission of pathogens.
