Abstract: Standardizing clinical procedures and decisions regarding euthanasia is a necessary and routine clinical practice. The aim of this study was to identify the factors that influence the decision-making process of veterinarians, veterinary students, cattle producers, and other agricultural professionals when opting for euthanasia in cattle. The study was conducted in January and February 2022, covering regions where cattle farming is present, through the application of an online questionnaire, distributed via social networks to the target audience. The results were compiled, followed by qualitative and quantitative data analysis using descriptive statistics, performed using Microsoft Excel® spreadsheet and the “Word Cloud” method, facilitated by the Word Cloud Explorer program. Out a total of 234 survey participants, 55.6% were female, and 44.4% were male. In response to the question regarding the factors considered when opting for euthanasia, it was observed that veterinarians and veterinary students mostly used the term “treatment”. On the other side, other agricultural professionals, cattle producers, and collaborators predominantly used the term “suffering”. When veterinarians and veterinary students were asked whether they had received instructions during their education studies regarding medical ethics and decision-making concerning euthanasia, 58.1% affirmed that they had. When questioned about their perception of the animal euthanasia, 37.2% of respondents considered it necessary for animal welfare but challenging to execute. This research underscores that euthanasia is necessary for animal welfare but poses significant challenges. The factors influencing the decision-making process are treatment and animal suffering.
