With the popularization of marijuana in recent years, more and more women of childbearing age have used the plant recreationally. Pregnant women who use Cannabis sativa may be at greater risk of prolonged hospitalization and adverse birth outcomes. Objective: to review recent literature on the use of marijuana during pregnancy and postpartum, seeking to elucidate possible risks associated with this use. Methodology: This study is a descriptive bibliographic review, carried out through searches in databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo); National Library of Medicine's (Pubmed-Medline) and Virtual Health Library (VHL), using inclusion and exclusion criteria in the selection of articles. Results: the harm caused by the use of Cannabis during pregnancy and postpartum include decreased growth, influence on fetal development, fetal brain malformation, which leads to early and long-lasting cognitive dysfunctions, embryogenic malformations, respiratory discomfort, hospitalization in UTI, premature birth and cannabinoid hyperemesis.
