Abstract: The influence of the dimensions of the cross section on bending strength is an effect contemplated in different regulations of wood structures. In European and Argentina regulations, adjustment expression is common for all species and origin, while in the United States and Chile, the structural degree or species is considered. Numerous studies have been conducted to verify the accuracy of adjustment expressions for each species combination -origin. This work analyzes the effect of the height of the cross section, on bending strength, in structural pieces of ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Douglas X Laws) cultivated in the Northern Andean-Patagonian region of Argentina. Bending tests were carried out on 440 structural size test bodies, in accordance with Argentine standards. The results indicated a decreasing tendency of the bending strength with the increase in height, the height effect was superior to the lower quality wood. The results obtained validate, for structural elements of ponderosa pine, the application of the adjustment criteria proposed in IRAM 9664 (2013) and the INTI- CIRSOC 601 (2016).
